God Is Speaking
God has spoken frequently through out history. The most accurate transmission and preservation of that speaking is through a written collection. We know that collection as the Bible or Sacred Scriptures. Businesses today use written documents as binding contracts, and our country was founded upon a set of binding documents. They become our accurate memory.
The method and means of communication was initiated by God Himself. Throughout history God has superintended the formation of content and the preservation of content. Our knowledge of this process comes to us by way of God's expression and not some form or format that we impose upon sacred scriptures.
God has defined the process and recorded the process as part of the preserved document. Hebrews 1:1-2 says:
"After God spoke long ago in various portions and in various ways to our ancestors through the prophets, in these last days he has spoken to us in a son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he created the world."
More from Hebrews 2:3-4:
"It was first communicated through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard him, while God confirmed their witness with signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will."
And another example in Romans 1:2:
"This gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures..."
The Bible is not God, but it is God speaking. God preserves his "speaking" through a function of the Holy Spirit to preserve the truth. Jesus said to his disciples about the Holy Spirit, John 16:12-13:
"I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell you what is to come."
Supernatural Revelation
God has given to man a special supernatural revelation, a revelation of who and what God is, who and what man is, and what God has done for man. In a study of scripture you will discover that God has declared that:
- A revelation is possible.
- A revelation is necessary.
- A revelation is probable.
- A revelation is credible.
- A revelation is reasonable.
- A revelation is certain.
The sacred scriptures come in two parts, known as testaments or covenants. When you think of covenants, you can equate it to our use of written language to confirm a contract between two entities. These are signed, and the phrase is sometimes used about "signing in blood." Jesus signed these covenants with his own blood. He was promised to come in the older scriptures, and the promise was kept when he did come to give his life a ransom for "the many." He will also keep his promise and come again for judgement, redemption and restoration.
Part of our faith in God has to do with believing that what He promised and spoke in scripture is true, and that He will keep His promises to the end.
It is not a blind faith, it is a faith or trust in the evidence he has presented to us. God has declared his power and authority through prophecy and miracles as evidence. The natural man presumes that miracles and the supernatural cannot be true, so they discard the evidence as myth, as over-active imagination of man. They place more faith in their own assessment of the evidence than the evidence itself!
God has described this state of humankind in Psalm 14:1-3:
"Fools say to themselves, 'There is no God.' They sin and commit evil deeds, none of them does what is right. The Lord looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God. Everyone rejects God, they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!"
